L’ancien Presbytere, Bissey-La-Cote, Burgundy
This early 19th century property retains most of its original features, whilst adapting to modern standards with a beautifully appointed kitchen, a large luxury bathroom, and two attractive shower rooms.
The entrance hall has an impressive double staircase up to the first floor
living quarters. There is a large salon, with seating for up to 12, a television with UK satellite channels, wi-fi, and Wii games, and large windows overlooking the garden. The dining room has an impressive round dining table, with a diameter of 8 feet, which seats 12 comfortably, and French doors leading out to the garden. The kitchen has numerous fitted units, a range cooker, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, microwave, and generously equipped with everything necessary to the
enthusiastic cook.
The large first floor bedroom has a king size bed, and windows looking out to
the garden. The large bathroom has a double corner bath, twin wash basins, and a large separate shower. There is also a separate WC next door.
On the second floor there is a twin bedded room, next to which is a large open area with sofa beds, single foldaway beds, and a large TV with DVD player. This lends itself ideally to groups of children. There is a large bedroom with a king sized bed, and across the central corridor are 2 new, beautifully decorated shower rooms with wash basin and WC. And finally, at the end of the corridor, is the piece de resistance - a huge bedroom with king sized bed, and sofa bed.
Nearly all the furniture in the house has been supplied by Indigo, the popular furniture store in Matlock, Derbyshire. Click here to take a look at the Indigo website to get an idea of the quality of their furniture.
On the ground floor is the sous-sol, or basement, with 3 large rooms housing the oil-fired state-of-the-art central heating boiler, washing machine, tumble drier, and all the equipment necessary for an enjoyable stay.
The substantial area at the front of the house is gravelled and has a pigeonnier and a large open barn.
The village of Bissey-la-Cote is a friendly community, mainly agricultural, but with 3 vineyards producing the delicious Cremant de Bourgogne. It has been by-passed by the main road from Chaumont to Chatillon-sur-Seine, making it very peaceful and a totally safe environment for children, without the passing traffic. There are daily visits by the Boulangerie van, and weekly visits by the butcher’s van, dairy van, and General Stores van. But the village is only a 5 minute drive to Chatillon, with its large central square, bars, restaurants, shops and supermarkets.
There are numerous places to visit within a few minutes, or an hour’s drive.
For wine lovers Champagne country is within 10 minutes of the village. The very attractive town of Chablis is about 40 minutes away, with Caves to visit, and sample the superb wines on offer. In the other direction is Beaune, with its neighbouring villages of Nuits St George, Gevry Chambertin, and other famous names. Beaujolais, and the Macon wines are within easy distance also.
